School is just around the corner! Have you decided to send the kiddos off after this last crazy year? Or are you going to venture homeschoo for the first time…or maybe you are a seasoned homeschool mama/daddy and need a fresh take and new ideas.
Either way, this post will help you create a simple homeschool curriculum or after school activities, that promotes mindful learning, imaginative play and minimal use of electronic devices.
3 Simple homeschool tips towards your homeschool curriculum.
TIPS
- Don’t try to cover every topic daily, remember “SIMPLE HOMESCHOOL”
Download my free homeschool schedule pdf HERE. - To optimize your homeschool experience for your kids, find out what type of learner your child is (visual learning style, audial learning style or kinetic learning style). You can take a quiz HERE to get a better idea of which they are.
- Don’t overwhelm yourself with materials. There are so many great books, and programs out there these days. So be careful not to end up with a bit of everything, that you end up focusing on nothing.
We have one workbook for each child that covers language, math and science. Then one computer program for math. One program to supplement languate…you getting the idea? SIMPLE
RESOURCES for SIMPLE HOMESCHOOL
Kiwi Co Kits–These have been a game changer in the imaginative play and mindful learning department. Each crate comes with 2-3 different activites or hands on learning project.
Starfall Learning: An online homeschool membership (or limited use for free) This is not a homeschool curriculum, but a wide range of learning games that are basic and straight forward. It’s definitely worth the year membership for $35
Khan Academy Kids: A homeschool learning app for children. In comparison to Starfall, I’d say Khan is geared more towards pre K and Kindergarten. It’s not as straight forward to navigate, but certainly worth having, and it’s FREE.
Khan Academy: I primarily use Khan Academy (desktop) for math tutorials and to track their progress. The tutorials for each math concept is especially great for visual learners, and it’s great how there are practice quizzes and then a test for each concept.
Get Funding
There are many states that now offer homeschool funding.
The one I use is My Tech High. Where you get $225 per course + $500 for tech funds (tech funds include things like computer & other electronics, classes, robotics, printers and ink etc.) My Tech High even has a Lego robotics (yes they pay for legos) and MineCraft courses!
