how to have a happy easter

Feeling pressure to make holidays pinterest perfect?  Want to simplify, and enjoy your Easter this year?

Do you ever feel Easter must be complete with matching outfits, elaborate easter baskets for all, and pictures of perfectly smiling children, with perfect hair, perfect smiles, that must always be that perfect all the time, right?

Of COURSE I believe in making the holidays special…especially one with as much important meaning behind it as Easter.
But do any of the following apply to you when the holiays creep closer?

  • Finding yourself low on energy
  • flustered
  • irritable
  • or flat out full of dread

*If you answered “yes” then it might be time to show yourself (and everyone else around you) some love, and reevalutae your priorities.

Fortunately that’s what this post is all about!

Follow these 3 steps to a better, happier and more meaningful Easter.

STEP 1: Ask why?

Why are you doing this? Why do you feel the need to do things a certain way.  To meet certain criteria?

And the reason might not be bad….For example, I want dinner to be fish & honeycomb-because that’s what the Savior ate when he was first ressurected-then it can lead to a discussion about it with the kids over dinner.
Example 2, I want to have family pictures in coordinating outfits, why?  Ultimately, because that’s what I feel I’m supposed to do…because my friends do, other bloggers do, Pinterest boards do…
See the difference, and how one might be worth your time, the other not so much.

STEP 2: Clean The Night Before

Recruit the family-if that doesn’t create for stress-and forego your evening Netflix and spend the time getting the house ready.

There was a children’s song my parents use to sing to us that went like this
“Saturday is a special day, it’s the day we get ready for Sun-Day” Then the versus go on to list of household chores etc.
They would sing this at the top of their lungs while my siblings and I cleaned…it drove me NUTS!!!
But there is a lot of meaning in it.  Do the house chores Saturday, so you can have a peaceful + meaning Sunday!

STEP 3: Remember!

As hard as it is to believe, Easter is not about food, bunnies, chicks, candy, eggs or even family…no it’s ABOUT the monumental event that Christ performed.

Bring your focus back to this one focal point, and everything else won’t feel so life and death important.  Let all the other little things go.  Of course having family over might entail the house needing to be clean, the food being ready to eat, but that doesn’t mean your importance as a human being rides on fitting a certain Pinterest perfect mold!

Behind the Scenes

What really happened

In our home, dinner ended up being leftovers, we had an egg hunt which consisted of plastic eggs from last year filled with whatever was already on hand.  The girls used shopping bags to collect the eggs they found, and no gifts were given.

We did however dye eggs for the first time, and the girls were amazed!
We had a relaxing day outside, listening to general conference, and truth be told, it was one of the most satisfying Easters we’ve ever had as a family.

Your children really don’t need all te bells and whistles.  All they really want is YOU.
