I’m constantly challenged with embracing the unexpected and staying present and content no matter the situation. | Here is one of my experiences, + some ways to find contentment in unexpected parenting moments
While on vacation in San Diego, we were excited to take the kids to the beach, but as soon as we arrived, Atlas had a massive diaper blowout. It was windy and frigid. And of course I forgot his change of clothes! Not exactly the beach entrance I had envisioned.
But rather than get frustrated and angry, I chose to laugh and find the beauty in the moment, I kept saying to myself “embrace the chaos”
(Don’t stress, I at least had a diaper and warm blanket to wrap him in 👍🏽)
After the initial chaos, I made my way down to the beach to find that Roman and Harley were “too freeeezing” so they went back to the car….awesome beach day so far lol
Instead of being taken over by disappointment, we decided to make the most of the situation.
Daniel and I took turns getting some shots of the kids. And when he took Roman and Harley back to the car, I actually found so much peace and contentment sitting in the sand with my baby and watching Kylie girl run back and forth, chase waved and build sand towers.
Embrace the Chaos! ❤️
I’m so happy I was able to “stay present” and not allow the situation to overwhelm or frustrate me. I was then able to recognize how Kylie is so much like me in that she lives and breathes the ocean. She’s completely in her element at the beach, no matter the weather. I was able to feel connected to her even though no words were said.
I’m so grateful I got to have that moment.
No matter the situation, you can focus on the present moment, and appreciate the beauty that’s in it, then even the most challenging events can be an opportunity for gratitude and contentment.
3 ways to find contentment in unexpected parenting moments
1. When the chaos comes raining down, take a few deep breaths and remind yourself by staying present and “embracing the chaos.” You’ll realize there really is no “problem” and this is just a “moment” in time.
2. Find the beauty in the moment and laugh. Unplanned events can often be funny and it‘s important to find the humor in the situation. I will always remember that beach day because of the imperfection.
3. Practice gratitude for the things that you can appreciate in the moment, like the safety of your children or the beauty of the day. This will help you to stay content and present.
