Strawberry Reservoir Summer Camping | our first of 2021

Summer camping trips are some of our fondest memories as a family, starting from when Kyle was barely 2.

While living in Texas we use to drive to New Braunfels ever Spring and Summer to camp along the river.  (Check out those posts HERE)

So we were more than excited to camp again for the first time in almost TWO YEARS!  This time with a new family member and a dog!

*Sadly this trip traumatized us a bit (of course it had its good points, just wish we knew a few things first).  Keep reading to find out what. ☹️

I mean if ever there was a time to fall in love with camping again, this is the year, because we have 3 more already planned and payed for summer camping trips haha 😩  So we better rekindle the camping love soon!

What is Strawberry Reservoir?

Strawberry Reservoir is a beautiful fishing lake tucked in the northern Utah mountains.
There are many camping options for trailers and tents alike.  Each varies significantly in appearance and ameneties, so make sure you explore all the options.

The lake is surrounded by aspens and pines (not pictured, because we didn’t have any in our campsite…going back to what you should know before visiting Strawberry Reservoir–all listed below)

Summer camping done right!

My sister in law’s husband is crazy (the good kind) and sets up a full blown trampoline on camping trips!  Who else is going to steal this idea now? 🙋🏻‍♀️

What to know

⛺️ Tent and trailer friendly

⛺️Great fishing, and kayaking, but very murky near the shore, so not a great swimming lake.

⛺️Firewood available for purchase from the host ($20/bundle)

⛺️Firepits in every site

⛺️Some of the sites come with wood canopies, and all come with at least one picnic table.  We still brought a back up canopy and I’m soooo glad we did.

⛺️Dogs allowed & must be on a leash at all times (Misa is remote trained so we didn’t keep her on a leash SHHHHHH haha.)

⛺️The campgrounds near the lake (where we were) don’t have have trees or shade.

⛺️Summer camping weather during the day 90F+   and at night around 50F

⛺️Cost per night $40

⛺️ Dirt bike/mountain bike trails nearby
*In this area your dirt bike must have a license plate*

⛺️Restrooms? Yes. And they were very clean ones!

⛺️Showers? No

Overall thoughts

*honestly I would never go back to this site.  I would go back to Strawberry Reservoir.  Surrounding our camp were beautiful aspens, pines, grassy fields, and hills.
Then there was our site which felt like an ugly barren patch in the middle of lush beauty. lol  If you have a camper it would be better but
A) I don’t like campers and B) I would still want trees and natural shade.

☀️Getting sweaty & personal!  Kinda funny…who else can relate?☀️

As I said there were good points on this trip.  It was a blast getting together with my husband’s sister and cousins and their families.  My brother in law clearly made it super fun and memorable for our girls and their cousins.  He normally sets up a zipline too, but we didn’t have any trees. 😡  (Which maybe I mentioned before…this bothered me lol)

Daniel and my brother in law went dirt biking on some gorgeous trails nearby.  And the camp host, Terri was a hoot.  She was so funny and friendly.

I also loved that dogs are allowed.

Really the main traumatizing part was as a result of there being no shade,
Roman had a super hard time taking a nap…so he didn’t, which made the night miserable (also the 50F cold didn’t help, and he got sick), which made him clingy and fussy the next day, he literally was in my arms allll day.  Which I love comforting my babies when they are sick, but it also made it impossible to do anything else while Daniel was gone 3 hours that morning when Roman was the most miserable and I had to take care of a dog, two other kids, get lunch for them etc IN THE NON SHADE HEAT….thank goodnes for the other cousins and my sis in law, they stayed by my side and helped where they could lol.

(note: my husband did feel awful when he got back and was so grateful to me for manning the fort)
But we just ended up leaving a day early.

What are some summer trips you’re planning to take?
