The days are getting warmer, YAAY Spring! Although, the weather never really sticks here, it’s 80 today and tomorrow it will drop to 50 degrees! Ha, yeah it’s crazy. But back to this day being GORGEOUS. I went running outside…and if you read my blog, you know that I HATE running on any sort of machinery (I feel like a hamster haha). So when it’s nice enough to run outside, I JUMP on that opportunity. It was indescribable. The weather was perfect, with a light breeze (the best!) I saw the tiniest, cutest baby lizard, and the fields and foliage were so beautiful I just had to stop and take a pic….then when I was done I was aching for a good ab workout, so I stopped by the gym and did my (new favorite) medicine ball crunches. HERE, and topped off the morning with some protein breakfast toast 🙂
So I’ve been being asked this question lately, and people’s response to my answer kinda surprises me…so of course, I had to blog about it 🙂 People say, “you’re so fit!’ (And THANK YOU, it seriously makes my day and uplifts my spirits). Then they add, “how do you do it? It’s probably genetic huh” Well honestly, I’d say genetics is only about half of it. Because actually DON’T eat anything I want all the time, and load up on fast food, and sweets. I work hard to eat healthy, stay in shape, drink lots of water, control my portions etc. I will say that I’m fortunate because I actually LOVE eating healthy, it tastes better, feels better, looks better 🙂 I do treat myself of course, but I’ve trained my body to rarely get the cravings.
When I say that they go ” aw man” (and not the good “aw man” but the bumbed out kind). I think, wow. I just told you that it’s NOT all genetics meaning it’s achievable for you…..When someone in really good shape tells me “oh it’s genetic” I get discouraged, not the other way around. Than I had the epiphany that maybe we as human beings just don’t like accountability. Sometimes (and I’ll admit I’m included in this) we feel relief when “it’s genetic” comes out of their mouth, because we then take it to mean, “oh, it’s out of my control, I’ll never have what they have…so I’ll just keep with my routine” In other wards, we like EXCUSES! But then, you learn, “YOU CAN HAVE THIS” if you make a few sacrifices, and suddenly we’re stressing because that little you at the back of you brain is saying, “What’s your excuse now?”
And maybe you truely enjoy your lifestyle, and that’s TOTALLY fine! Keep it that way. And maybe you ARE working your butt off and just not getting the results you want (and in that case you’re not making excuses 🙂 you just need to be patient 🙂 ) Ultimately, the only one really stopping you from getting results you want is yourself. Again, that’s accountability…it’s there whether you like it or not, and you can’t run from it 🙂
the first step is you have to say that you can.
